We spent four days of meetings, interesting activities and new experiences. To all our guests this was the first meeting with Zagreb and it was the first such event in our school and we hope it will not be the only one. In these four days we have learned many interesting facts about Zagreb, we have learned many words in 8 European languages and we have made new friends. This was the best possible start of the two-year collaboration on this project!
We started the day learning about our schools from PowerPoint presentations. We have learned something about each other, and it was a great way to break the ice. After lunch, we visited Hotel Palace where Ivica Štruml, a famous chef, talked about štrukle, a famous Croatian dessert.
Since the project will have at least two video conferences, we finished the day at the school with a workshop held by one of our partners Zuzana Christozová (SK). Since she is an eTwinning ambassador, we learned a lot about eTwinning and Twinspace, as well as how to participate in a video conference. |
Friday was filled with excitement, and we started it in the City hall visiting the Mayor. We continued our tour of Zagreb on the popular Green bus line. The guests had the opportunity to see the Botanical Gardens, the Main Train Station, Cibona Tower, Zagrepčanka, the Arena Zagreb venue, Novi Zagreb, the Museum of Contemporary Art and other important buildings in Zagreb. Also, we showed the guests our parks: Jarun, Bundek, Maksimir and Ribnjak. After lunch we continued our tour on Mirogoj Cemetery whose arcades charmed our guests, and then we visited the Cathedral and the Upper town. As the Upper Town is full of surprises, some guests were literally breathless, especially seeing St. Mark's Church and the view from the Strossmayer promenade. We also visited the Zagreb Mosque, the only mosque in Croatia at the moment. The perfect end of this day was a rich dinner with traditional music, where the guests had the opportunity to see another part of Croatian rich tradition. |
We decided to spend Saturday on Medvednica, which welcomed us with snow, even before the official start of winter. Sitting at the top of Medvednica, in the restaurant of the hotel Tomislavov dom while it was snowing around us was unexpectedly fabulous.
Who would have known that we'd be making snowman at Sljeme, the home of Snow Queen Trophy? |
We would like to help the following institutions, hotels, and companies for making this meeting possible:
