Our second project meeting was in Martin in Slovakia and we will all remember the snow that welcomed us. Although it was cold and the town was snowbound, the hosts warmed our hearts with their hospitality, great experiences and beautiful memories.
We started the day with the visit to the town. Martin is a small Slovak town with about 50.000 inhabitants, and what is interesting is that it is the cultural center of Slovakia. We visited the Slovak National Museum, and then we spent the afternoon in the school having fun at workshops.
After the presentations of our legends, we learned how to create posters in PowerPoint, and one workshop resulted in a handwritten collection of our legends. |

Visit to the Slovak National Library and Matica Slovenská, along with workshops at the school marked this day.
In the Library we learned how many books there were in their catalogue and we saw the smallest book they have, a copy of the Qur'an. The workshops at school were great because we got to know students from partner countries better and we learned many new things. The day was very productive because not only we learned how to use GoogleDocs and what eTwinning has to offer, but we also worked on our Facebook group, learned common phrases in Slovak language and we had a chance to decorate traditional Slovak cookies. |
We spent most of our Saturday in the beautiful High Tatras searching for the treasure of Jánošík who hid it somewhere in the mountains.
After the cold mountains we went swimming in thermal water in Poprad's Aquacity. |
Since we visited Slovakia in the period of carnival, or fašiangy, our hosts took us to the Museum of Slovak village, an open air museum where you can see restored old farmhouses from different Slovakian regions as museum exhibits. We found ourselves in the middle of the carnival!
The day finished in Žilina where we went shopping for souvenirs and supplies for the return home. |
